We saw all of them have an interaction that was a big surprise and it wowed us. I’m sharing photos, but it’s inadequate to describe the scene we witnessed… It’s like they were paid actors! She told us the guides all talk to each other so they know where animals are. She brought a scope for each of us, snacks and drinks, even extra gloves or hats if we needed that. Her score had an adapter for her phone so she could take pictures and videos which were sent to us. Kate was extremely knowledgeable about the animals, geography, history of the area. She was amazing. We saw grizzly, black bear, wolves, wolves, coyotes, eagle, moose, fox, deer and bison of course. We would’ve never seen all that without her guidance! Kate was extremely knowledgeable of the habits, locations, and over all activity of everything 4 legged & winged creatures of Lamar Valley & surrounding areas. She has a passion for what she does, & the things she’s seen. There is a light that clicks on when talking about the animals she shares her home with. Kate met us right on time with great choices of breakfast foods, coffee, hot chocolate, drinks, binoculars, and scopes for watching & locating wildlife. Our top challenge for her was the gray wolf. Kate took us to a den area well known to locals but Mother Nature decided to have a heavy fog linger over the den viewing area. We were still able to see bison, prong horn antelope, coyotes, a snow goose, & a bald eagle & an eaglet in its nest nearby. We know as well as others that it is nature and you can’t be guaranteed “the camera shot” you hope for. While we patiently waited, Kate shared a lot of great information with us on some history of the local packs, park statistics, how / why introductions and protections are decided, and the importance and balance of the elk & bison herds for the wolf packs. The area outfitters have a great relationship with each other and via radio, they let others know where wildlife is spotted so all their guests can enjoy more beauty of the area. We highly recommend booking a tour with Silver Gate Guides if you plan a trip to Yellowstone. They are open to suggestions on their techniques but we had none to make as Kate covered everything and in a large and comfortable vehicle at that! We didn’t just leave the area with more information than we thought, but have made a new friend and plan to get in touch with Kate in the future. 5 Stars! Professional! Very personable! I knew that she could take them out into some areas that would be too hard for me to try. Let me just say, SHE WAS PHENOMENAL! She brought spotting scopes, beverages and a big lunch for all of us, and was in constant contact with other guides out that day, so we knew where the animals were. We saw virtually all species in the area that day! Again, PHENOMENAL! Her personality makes her hard not to love; warm, funny, flexible, and very well educated in her sciences and her guiding. My grandsons took to her immediately, asked a million questions and had a bang-up day, as did I. SO FUN! Give yourself an amazing Yellowstone experience by going out in the Park with Kate. Our guide Hunter is a natural at sharing his home with visitors. He was courteous and took care of us throughout the morning. We had such a lovely start to the day in the 'Secluded Valley' (AKA Lamar). We rolled up and got a perfect spot to watch the light come up on a grizzly with a bison carcass. It was wildlife drama at its finest as the griz, draped over the stiff buffalo, chased off the continuous crows. Hunter is a professional at adapting each tour to his audience. As we enjoyed the views through multiple incredible spotting scopes, Hunter taught us the names of the surrounding landmarks, Tukudika (Sheep Eater band of the Shoshone) history, and endless facts about the wildlife. We are locals to the area and wanted to expand our knowledge of the place. He taught us so much in a few hours and his passion for the surrounding nature is appreciated. And...yes...Hunter got us a wolf sighting. And on a tough day when not many others saw one. He knew just where to go to get one before the end of our day. Like I said...legit.

It's tough as guides can't control the creatures that show up (what fun would that be, anyway?)... or the weather, but watching the mist roll through the valley, a mama grizzly & her two cubs meandering up a hill, a black wolf trotting casually into the sagebrush, a coyote and badger hunting together... just simply listening to the bison grunt and their calves hop & skip around, is priceless. Spending time with these guides made our 2023 Yellowstone experiences extra special.

She not only had a vast knowledge of the wildlife, but also Yellowstone National Park history and beyond. She was able to answer any questions and we learned so many facts. We had a spectacular morning as we were able to spot a bald eagle, pronghorn, mountain goats, elk, a sandhill crane pair, grizzly and wolves! We were fortunate to have her help spotting, as we never would have seen most of these without her guiding experience and equipment. A few things that exceeded my expectations, besides Kates’ guiding experience, included an add-on to the scope which allowed a larger screen for the kids (and adults!) to see the animals more clearly AND take pictures/video. These were shared with us after our trip, so we could save them for our memories. She also came well prepared with a variety of breakfast snacks and hot coffee! If you are hoping for a more memorable park experience, Silver Gate Guides goes above and beyond. For us, this experience lifted the pressure off the more seasoned Yellowstone travelers in our group and allowed us to enjoy the park in a way we would not have been able to without Kate.
